Many societies have submitted the details about their local shows for the 2019 growing season. These shows are open to the public and are a wonderful place to see various cultivars (grown in your area) and to talk dahlias with local growers.

The Board of Directors of the American Dahlia Society has authorized the issuing of a pin for those who have entered the judging program as candidate judges. Larry Smith of the Portland Dahlia Society and board member of ADS, was recently interviewed on Garden Time, a TV show carried on several channels in the Northwest. Larry introduced the viewers to micro dahlias. See the interview here.
At the 2019 Spring Planning Meeting, attendees viewed a presentation on judging and classifying the color characteristic of dahlias. The presentation was the creation of Roger Walker and expertly presented by Terry Schroeder. The Board thought that all members would be interested in this presentation. It is with deepest regret that Central States Dahlia Society and the Southtown Dahlia Club report the passing of Frank Campise. Frank was a longtime member of both Chicago-based societies as well as the American Dahlia Society. He passed at 87 years (young) after a determined battle against cancer.

A new dahlia named Medalist is being cultivated in Hanawa, Japan for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic games. Townsfolk hope that the flower will be used for Olympic victory bouquets.
