"2007 ADS Border/Container Dahlia of the Year"

The votes are all in and the 2007 ADS Border/Container Dahlia of the Year" winner is PINOT NOIR (M C DkPk). This beauty performed well in all parts of the country.

There are 12 evaluators from all sections of the country. These evaluators grow the three dahlias selected for evaluation and report back at the end of the season which one performed best as a border or container dahlia. Some grow it as part of a flower border and others as a focal point in a container garden.

This is from one of the evaluators report and sums up this beauty from Dr. Keith Hammett of New Zealand. “I'm very very excited about this plant. The foliage has become more attractive since the temperatures lowered and rainfall has become more normal amounts. The blooms are long-lasting. I am very pleased with the color of the bloom which is iridescent, and reflects the colors in the ripening Pinot Noir grape, and in a glass of the wine, which, according to one description: can be any of a range of colors - from cherry red to purple-red and even brown as the wine ages."

It was grown singly in a pot. I think that it would make a wonderful plant grown alone and placed in an attractive pot. It would be easy for home gardeners to grow a very attractive plant.
